Things that make Irondequoit unique

I'm a teacher here and Household incomes average around $76,871 in Irondequoit. The median home value here is around $169,000, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 50,438, Irondequoit is a smaller city. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited nightlife
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The public transit scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in retail. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is improving in most areas.
