Just moved to Irvine from New York — first impressions

We made the move 2 ago and here are my first impressions:

The downtown area has been revitalized. Rent runs about $2,893/month for a typical apartment. Weather is moderate — about 62F average.

Biggest surprise: How much I actually like it here
Biggest disappointment: The winters are rougher than expected

Overall, there are worse places to be.

The job market has been improving lately. Several manufacturing companies moved in recently.

I'd add that the school system has been improving steadily. Otherwise spot on!

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Eastside and Maple Heights are perfectly safe.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Pine Grove and Westside are perfectly safe.
