Homes are going for about $287,300 on average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Should I be concerned?

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 36, moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in North and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The job market situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The pet-friendliness is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 1 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Hope this helps!.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
