I work in manufacturing and Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 1,352, Irwindale is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Irwindale sits at 1,769.9 per 100K. Homes are going for about $645,800 on average. You can expect to pay around $2,083 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 10 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Uptown for 5 years. Moved from Portland for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Nightlife is limited. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 5/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Korean places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely decent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
