How much do you pay for rent in Isla Vista?

Curious what people think. Just moved here 17 months ago and It's a a small town city with about 13,717 people. The median home value here is around $1,241,700, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $1,856 for rent here. Poverty rate is 6.7%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Not enough green space
Has anyone dealt with this? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Midtown area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.
