Is it worth buying in Isla Vista?

Hey folks, I'm originally from Los Angeles and With a population of 13,717, Isla Vista is a small town. The unemployment rate is 10.1%, which is concerning. Homes are going for about $1,241,700 on average. Rent is about $1,856/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,856 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Diverse community
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community
- Active local events

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- High property taxes
- Limited cultural events
Does this match your experience? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I've lived in Old Town for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..
