Rent vs buy in Isla Vista -what makes sense?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm retired and Household incomes average around $24,428 in Isla Vista. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Anyone in a similar situation?

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Nashville about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Seattle about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
