Life in Island Lake as a young professional

We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,855/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $241,900 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Easy commute
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Boring for young people
- Poor road conditions
- Limited cultural events
Thanks for reading. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Italian.

No regrets on my end..
