I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $121,000, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $46,250 in Jackson. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $626/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Definitely worth checking out..

Bought a house here in 2015 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

I've lived in Uptown for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- The pet-friendliness scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
