Hey, Homes are going for about $94,700 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Worth the trade-offs? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely improving and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 8 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in retail. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
