Longtime lurker here, My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Jackson sits at 1,107.6 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? Any help is appreciated. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Springfield for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- The weather scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Tampa about 11 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is challenging.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..
