How is Jackson for outdoor activities?

Curious what people think. Crime rate is something to consider -Jackson sits at 105.6 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 15,532 people. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. TIA! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely tough and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Springfield) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in finance here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is better than expected. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much developing but now it's pretty good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 4 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..
