Best and worst neighborhoods in Jackson

Hey, Been living here since 2014. You can expect to pay around $1,018 for rent here. It's a a mid-size city city with about 150K people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor recreation is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much affordable but now it's decent.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Asian places. I love the pace of life here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2021 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely decent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Springfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
