I'm originally from Charlotte and Average temperature is around 67°F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $43,238 in Jackson. The median home value here is around $108,200, which is actually reasonable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Jackson? It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Fairview area are solid. Kids love it here.

Came here for family and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The cost of living is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely improving and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (East) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Austin about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The healthcare is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
