Why I chose Jackson over bigger cities
Just moved here 8 months ago and Rent is about $1,018/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $43,238 in Jackson. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Limited dining options
- Homelessness issues downtown
- Not enough green space
Would love some local perspective. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.
