Things Jackson needs to improve

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $784/month for a decent place. Median household income is $53,609, which feels on the lower side for the area. You can expect to pay around $784 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thoughts? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Sunset) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
