OK so I've been here for 12 years and Median household income is $51,552, which feels on the lower side for the area. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What would you do? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much competitive but now it's decent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely challenging and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Uptown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
