Is Jacksonville good for remote workers?

I'm single, late 20s, and Crime rate is something to consider — Jacksonville sits at 647.4 per 100K. Average temperature is around 71°F, so it's warm year-round. Median household income is $66,981, which feels about average for the area. It's a a major city city with about 962K people. The median home value here is around $266,100, which seems about average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Downtown area are solid. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 31, moved here 5 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Riverside and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The public transit situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a marketing manager and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is average and there's always something going on.
