Is Jacksonville worth moving to in 2026?

My partner and I are You can expect to pay around $1,375 for rent here. Rent is about $1,375/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 3 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 11 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I'm a physical therapist and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in finance. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The walkability is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 48, moved here 15 years ago from New York. I've lived in Springfield and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The traffic situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for remote workers. decent vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for family and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The public transit is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
