You can expect to pay around $1,375 for rent here. It's a a major city city with about 962K people. With a population of 962K, Jacksonville is a major city. The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 53, moved here 13 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Westside and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The community vibe situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Uptown for 2 years. Moved from Boston for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Property taxes are high. And nightlife can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The healthcare scene is improving
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..
