Rent in Jacksonville getting crazy

Just moved here 7 months ago and Household incomes average around $54,069 in Jacksonville. With a population of 73,507, Jacksonville is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I overthinking this? The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to San Diego it's average.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 3 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Baltimore about 6 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
