Hey, I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider -Jamestown sits at 243.5 per 100K. Homes are going for about $192,500 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks for reading.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great BBQ places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Chicago about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 12 years. Moved from Dallas for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Dating scene is rough. And housing market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much pricey but now it's improving.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 4 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a physical therapist and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Riverside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is average
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.
