Worst things about Jamul nobody talks about

OK so I'm retired and Household incomes average around $148,740 in Jamul. You can expect to pay around $3,501 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I wrong here? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Highland for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- The job market scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in marketing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
