Alright, I'm retired and With a population of 7,215, Jasper is a small town. Median household income is $42,407, which feels on the lower side for the area. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Thoughts? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 36, moved here 9 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Westside and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The public transit situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is challenging in most areas.
