Hi all, Just moved here 2 months ago and The median home value here is around $106,600, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $817/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 8,719 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Would love some local perspective. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 46, moved here 6 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Cedar Grove and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The community vibe situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The school system is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Midtown for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The outdoor recreation scene is average
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Old Town area are tough. Kids love it here.

The downsides:

The food scene here is average. Tons of great craft beer places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Portland about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..
