Biggest downsides of living in Jefferson City?

Alright, Military spouse here. With a population of 42,565, Jefferson City is a smaller city. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Greenfield area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I work in marketing here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is better than expected. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Salt Lake City it's challenging.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.
