Jefferson City in the winter -how bad?

Hi all, We have two kids and Poverty rate is 10.7%, which is around average. The suburbs are where most families end up. What do you all think? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community vibe is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 10 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I work in engineering here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is challenging. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2018 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.
