With a population of 28,988, Jeffersontown is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Jeffersontown sits at 110.7 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Anyone in a similar situation? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely excellent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 13 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is improving.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.
