OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in finance. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The job market scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 8 years. Moved from Atlanta for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is decent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Limited entertainment options. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely decent and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Springfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 7 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Raleigh it's solid.
