Things Johnson City needs to improve

I'm a remote worker and Median household income is $51,667, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's a a small town city with about 15,130 people. Household incomes average around $51,667 in Johnson City. Crime rate is something to consider -Johnson City sits at 659.8 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $993 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Good schools
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
- Poor road conditions
The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 52, moved here 2 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Riverside and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The traffic situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
