Biggest downsides of living in Johnson City?

Been meaning to ask this. Been living here since 2010. With a population of 71,455, Johnson City is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -Johnson City sits at 425.6 per 100K. Household incomes average around $55,429 in Johnson City. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a smaller city city with about 71,455 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Diverse community
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Sprawl everywhere
- Far from major airports
Am I overthinking this? Cheers. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I've lived in Fairview for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- The community vibe scene is average

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
