Johnson City job market vs Indianapolis

I'm a college student here and It's a a smaller city city with about 71,455 people. Household incomes average around $55,429 in Johnson City. With a population of 71,455, Johnson City is a smaller city. The median home value here is around $238,000, which is actually reasonable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Thanks for reading. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 32, moved here 5 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The safety situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $50K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
