Pros and cons of Johnson City after 5 years

Alright, Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $238,000 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Appreciate any input. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 6 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
