Should I move to Johnsonburg or stay in Miami?

Curious what people think. I'm retired and Rent is about $687/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 7.8%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Johnsonburg sits at 82.5 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Is this normal for Johnsonburg? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 6 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 51, moved here 10 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Old Town and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Limited shopping options
3. The public transit situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much growing but now it's average.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Austin about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 3 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Raleigh it's decent.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
