How much do you pay for rent in Johnston?

OK so We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,288 for rent here. Homes are going for about $346,200 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Sprawl everywhere
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Should I be concerned? The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've lived in Westside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The food scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in North area are tough. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 48, moved here 4 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Westside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The community vibe situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
