Cheapest neighborhoods in Johnstown?

Curious what people think. I'm retired and With a population of 8,153, Johnstown is a small town. Homes are going for about $147,000 on average. Average temperature is around 42--F, so bundle up in winter. It's a a small town city with about 8,153 people. The unemployment rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Nice parks and trails
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited dining options
- Few job opportunities in some fields
Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development.

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Old Town area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 2 years. Moved from Atlanta for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Limited entertainment options. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 32, moved here 13 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in South and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The school system situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
