I'm a college student here and The median home value here is around $42,100, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the South side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

I'm a teacher and I've found it exceeded my expectations. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Baltimore about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.
