Joliet job market vs Salt Lake City

So, Homes are going for about $248,600 on average. Average temperature is around 53°F, so expect cold winters. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What would you do? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- The cultural scene scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 57, moved here 14 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Fairview and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The traffic situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for retirees. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.
