Longtime lurker here, I'm a remote worker and It's a a smaller city city with about 52,218 people. Median household income is $51,154, which feels on the lower side for the area. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Definitely worth checking out..

No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.
