Hey, I'm retired and Poverty rate is 11.7%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $159,700, which is actually reasonable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Let me know your thoughts. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 4 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from New York about 9 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
