Why I chose Joplin over bigger cities
Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $51,154 in Joplin. Rent is about $889/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Nice parks and trails
- Growing food scene
- Easy commute
- Walkable downtown
Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Limited dining options
- Not enough green space

Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.
