Been meaning to ask this. The unemployment rate is 0.9%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $48,705, which feels on the lower side for the area. Homes are going for about $314,200 on average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What do you all think? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I've lived in Highland for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- The housing market scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- The job market scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I work in marketing here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is decent. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
