Job market in Juneau for tech?

Hey folks, My partner and I are Rent is about $1,462/month for a decent place. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thoughts? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Highland) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely improving and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.
