Just moved to Juneau, any tips?

So, I've been here for 3 years and Rent is about $1,462/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $432,500, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Juneau sits at 908.5 per 100K. With a population of 31,969, Juneau is a smaller city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Has anyone dealt with this? The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 26, moved here 9 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Springfield and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Can feel isolated
3. The community vibe situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a nurse and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The traffic is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Austin about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much affordable but now it's surprisingly good.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Came here for retirement and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The weather is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
