Hello, Been living here since 2009. With a population of 27,068, Kahului is a smaller city. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Came here for weather and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The nightlife is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Boston about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..
