The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What do you all think? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Came here for work and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The dating scene is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much reasonable but now it's underrated.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from LA about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in government. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
