Life in Kailua CDP (Honolulu County) as a young professional

Hey everyone, It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Worth the trade-offs? Any help is appreciated.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Houston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
