Things Kailua CDP (Honolulu County) needs to improve

Hey, I'm a 32-year-old teacher and It's a a smaller city city with about 39,762 people. Median household income is $146,615, which feels pretty solid for the area. You can expect to pay around $3,068 for rent here. Homes are going for about $1,239,000 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Has anyone dealt with this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

I'm a pharmacist and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.
