What to expect moving to Kailua CDP (Honolulu County)?

Hey, It's a a smaller city city with about 39,762 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Kailua CDP (Honolulu County) sits at 232.1 per 100K. With a population of 39,762, Kailua CDP (Honolulu County) is a smaller city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 9 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
