Rent in Kalamazoo getting crazy

Hey everyone, Military spouse here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. the quality of life is solid.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
